About Nigel

“Nigel Forbes was born in Colombo on April 16, 1965. He studied at St. Peters College Colombo and is a prominent member of the schools old boy network. He hails from a family of bankers, sportsmen, and artistically creative women.

He played rugby for St Peters, Havelock’s in 1984 and 1985, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Allegheny Rugby Union from 1985 to 1988.

He did the usual routine of working part time while studying in the States and found time to travel around the U.S. and Canada. A former Corporate Banker at Standard Chartered and Deutsche Bank, Nigel also worked as CEO of Brandix LightSew Cluster / Brandix Intimates and Chief People Officer at Brandix Lanka, Sri Lanka’s single largest apparel exporter. Nigel is presently working for Pership, Sri Lanka’s top tier Transportation Company as Head of Business Development and Alliances.

A founder member of the Peterite Rugby Foundation, every Saturday afternoon is rugby timeout for Nigel. He plays occasional rugby even as a youthful 45 year old but recurrent injuries kept him out of action this summer though he is hoping to make a comeback soon at friendly rugby tournaments. He is the Founder Director of Prins-aquatherapy Lanka Private Limited, a blue ocean aqua rehab operating at NCC Pool.

On long weekends his favourite pastime is taking his family out of Colombo. He started his photo journey with a demo digital camera at Best Buys for USD 220 which he still uses, along with other equipment such as his Canon G10 and has since 2004 captured over 3,000 photos. His dream is to upload a cross-section of them onto his own website named Wild Ceylon.com.

His favourite holiday areas in Sri Lanka are Gangewadiya, Kalawewa, Ritigala, Unawattuna, Dondra and Wilpattu/Yala, and he never tires of visiting these beautiful locales.

All the photos of Adams Peak have been taken from his home at Raymond Road, Nugegoda.

While many of his friends and family have migrated overseas Nigel has stayed on in the land of his birth, enjoying its bounty and returns its gifts in kind by cataloguing its wonderful scenery and opening up its wonders to the next generation of Lankans.”
